“That’s Not Happening No More”: Jared Verse’s Vow to Dominate After Leaving “10 Sacks on the Field” in Rookie Year

California’s Los Angeles The majority of NFL rookies would be completely satisfied with a season that ended with Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection. However, for Jared Verse, an outside linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams, it’s only the beginning. Despite having a fantastic rookie season and being a disruptive force, Verse just revealed something shocking: he thinks he left “around 10 sacks on the field” during his rookie year. This is a bold promise, not a boast, and it demonstrates the unquenchable hunger of a young star on the verge of real NFL dominance.

Verse’s frank self-evaluation during organized team activities (OTAs) has caused a stir in the league. Opposing offensive coordinators would be unable to sleep with the thought of him perhaps increasing his official 2024 stat line of 4.5 sacks to an incredible 14.5 sacks. With that total, he would have finished second in the league last season, which is an extremely impressive accomplishment for a rookie.

Rookie year

A Rookie Year of Impact – And Self-Correction

Verse, the Rams’ first first-round selection since 2016, was selected 19th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, raising expectations for the team. He didn’t let me down. The 24-year-old Florida State product played in all 17 games (16 starts) and immediately established himself as a vital component of the Rams’ defensive comeback. He had 4.5 sacks, but he also recorded 66 tackles, 18 quarterback hits, 76 pressures (fourth among all pass rushers, according to Next Gen Stats), two caused fumbles, and passes defensed. With two playoff sacks and even a fumble recovery for a touchdown in their Wild Card victory, he really came into his own during the postseason.

Verse, however, is more concerned with the unrealized potential than the recognition. “The biggest thing I realized was how many sacks — and not even just sacks but big plays — I missed out on,” Verse said. His reflections explore the subtleties of his profession and go beyond the stat sheet. He blamed his missed opportunities on being “a little too inside, a little too this, a little too that, not taking that extra step” in some situations. This careful self-evaluation and a deep comprehension of the “game of inches” are what really set decent players apart from exceptional.

The Mindset of a Relentless Competitor

Verse is one of the few young athletes who exhibits self-awareness. It says a lot about his drive for achievement and dedication to constant growth. He is actively analyzing his game, determining his shortcomings, and creating a strategy to get rid of them rather than sitting on his laurels. Maximizing his influence on the team is more important than his individual stats.

“Looking at that, I’m like that’s not happening no more, so the things that I could do now is a whole different conversation,” Verse said with certainty. This is the self-assured remark of a player who has worked hard and saw the rewards; it is not arrogance. He’s doing, not just talking.

Intentionality is more important to his development than technique alone. “My first year, I was kind of like just wild, like, hey, just kind of going out there wild and doing my little thing,” said Verse. “I now understand the significance of each step. It must all be deliberate. Everything you do has a purpose. You must be deliberate in all that you do. The development of NFL stars is characterized by this transition from unplanned athleticism to strategic execution.

The Aaron Donald Effect and a Collective Pass Rush

Although Verse’s drive for perfection is evident on an individual basis, the Rams’ pass rush as a whole amplifies his influence on defense. Future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald’s retirement raised concerns about how the Rams would apply pressure. But Verse’s rise, along with that of fellow Seminole rookie Braden Fiske and second-year standouts Byron Young and Kobie Turner, offered a decisive response. Due in large part to the opportunities Verse generated, this dangerous quartet finished the 2024 regular season with 28.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss.

Chris Shula, the defensive coordinator for the Rams, has personally witnessed Verse’s development. “You can tell he’s really taken the techniques that Joe (Coniglio, OLB coach) and Giff (Smith, DL coach) are really teaching him and applying them on the field,” Shula stated. “And I think things have slowed down for him a little bit, and he’s playing really fast right now.” The Rams’ defensive future is bright because of this unity and personal growth.

Looking Ahead: The Sophomore Leap and Beyond

Jared Verse is poised to make a big “sophomore leap” in the 2025 campaign. While he was a draft prospect, he did not have the opportunity to workout, watch film, and hone his skills for the whole summer. His words are a promise, and his resolve is evident. “All I know is it’s going to be up, that’s all I know, because I’m not giving them up like I was last year,” said Verse. “I’ve learned to take that little extra step, keep my feet underneath me, and I’m taking everything I’ve got this year.”

Without a question, Verse has great aspirations for 2025. Despite Coach Shula’s insistence that he should “be the best version of himself” and not put “any extra pressure on himself,” there is an unmistakable sense of expectation. Verse’s ability to turn his self-described “missed sacks” into a real statistical explosion will be closely watched by both fans and pundits.

He displayed a high level of play during the 2024 postseason, providing a tantalizing sneak peek at what’s to come. Verse and his teammates young pass rushers will be even more crucial to the Rams defense’s ability to thwart opposing offenses now that Donald is gone.

In addition to being a bright young talent, Jared Verse is a motivated person with a distinct future goal. His openness about lost chances is a strong testament to his unwavering drive for excellence rather than a sign of weakness. The NFL is on notice as the season approaches because Jared Verse is coming and he won’t be leave any sacks on the field this time.
